SONY CLASSICAL ADDS 20 NEW TITLES TO ITS ACCLAIMED MASTERWORKS EXPANDED EDITION SERIES CDs RELEASED ON JULY 27, 2004

Editors note: These CD's sound wonderful, the remastering
of these treasured albums are a gift to any orchestral music
lover.  There are some that have included additional tracks
of treasured musical numbers, above and beyond those
found on the earlier recordings.  Some of the best compositions

With Additional Tracks And State-Of-The-Art Remastering, Twenty Legendary Recordings By Ma, Perahia, Stern, Horowitz, Ax, Rampal, Walter, Serkin, Bernstein, Guitarist John Williams, Many Others Featured In New Titles

(New York, NY, July 19, 2004)  Sony Classical has transformed 20
more of the most acclaimed recordings in its catalogue for a new series called Masterworks Expanded Edition, enhancing each classic title with additional tracks (many available for the first time in any format) and
state-of-the-art remastering using Sony's Direct Stream Digital (DSD)
System and SBM Direct for the best possible sound.  All 20 titles in
Masterworks Expanded Edition ? featuring the label's most esteemed artists of the last half-century  will be released on Tuesday,
July 27, 2004.

Like the first 40 in the series, each title appears in distinctive new
packaging, with the liner notes from its original release as well as
reviews that testify to its acclaim.  Titles have been chosen to guide
those who are trying to build a library of recorded classical music,
offering the essential masterpieces of the core-classical repertoire in
legendary performances.  The new tracks add to the overall value of the
series, along with special midline pricing.  Over 100 titles in the series
are planned for release over the next two years.

The new Masterworks Expanded Edition titles include:

·     Barber: Adagio for Strings and Other Romantic Favorites for Strings
(SK 92726)  Leonard Bernstein/New York Philharmonic  Also includes
Vaughan Williams's Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis for Double String Orchestra and Fantasia on "Greensleeves"; Tchaikovsky's Andante Cantabile (from String Quartet No. 1); the Adagietto from Mahler's Symphony No. 5.
Bonus tracks include the Romance from Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik; the Largo from Winter of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons (with John Corigliano, violinist); and the Élégie (Larghetto eligiaco) from Tchaikovsky's Serenade for String Orchestra in C Major, Op. 48.

·     Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition / Night on Bald Mountain (SK

Bonus tracks (all Chopin) include the Fantasie-Impromptu in C-sharp minor, Op. 66, and three Impromptus (A-flat Major, Op. 29; F-sharp Major, Op. 36; G-flat Major, Op. 15.

·     J. S. Bach: Violin Concertos (SK 92732)  Isaac Stern/Itzhak Perlman

Stern is soloist in the A Minor Concerto, BWV 1041, in which he also leads the London Symphony Orchestra, and the E Major Concerto, BWV 1042, with Alexander Schneider conducting the English Chamber Orchestra.  Perlman joins him in the D Minor Concerto for Two Violins, BWV 1043, with Zubin Mehta conducting the New York Philharmonic.

Bonus tracks feature Bach's Trio Sonata in G Major, BWV 1038, with Stern, Jean-Pierre Rampal (flute), Leslie Parnas (cello) and John Steele Ritter (harpsichord).
