Bears offense takes off.. Mauls Lions 34-7 for second straight win
By Dan Peters

The Chicago Bears proved today that the Preseason means nothing.. Scoring their second win in a row at their home opener against the flat Detroit Lions.

After the stunning 26-0 victory at Lambeau Field against the Packers last Sunday, The Chicago Bears showed no mercy with
it's second of three consecutive games against NFC North Foes. Last week's shutout was the Monsters of the Midway's first
shutout in 66 games.

Four Minutes into the game, the stingy Bears defense roared
when Bears Linebacker Brian Urlacher recovered a fumble on
the Lions 3 yard line. Defensive tackle Tank Johnson stripped Lions quarterback Jon Kitna of the ball.  Grossman hit John Gilmore for the early touchdown... The rout was on.

Quarterback Rex Grossman had his best game of his Pro career today throwing for 289 yards and four touchdowns, completing
20 of 27 passes, both career highs. His quarterback rating after today was near 150!! "We went after them a little bit" Grossman said. "Everything seemed to work today"  Receiver Bernard Berrian had a great day as well  with five receptions for 89 yards including a stunning 41 yard touchdown that gave the Bears a
17-0 lead in the second quarter. "Its a whole lot of fun. We're spreading the ball around on offense"
Berrian said.

The Lions offense on the other hand, self destructed all day
when they had opportunities in the Red Zone. The Bears defense was stellar as usual, recovering three Lions fumbles and sacked quarterback Jon Kitna six times. Shades of the 1985 Bears. Fans
in the Windy City are thinking Super Bowl.. But its only the
second game of the season, and the Bears well known running game has yet to show up. "We know were going to run the
football, what we can do with the running game. We wanted to bring our passing game along" Head Coach Lovie Smith said.

The Bears have outscored it's two division rivals 60-7 heading
into Minnesota Sunday. The 60 points represent The Bears best offensive output in the first two games since 1984, and the seven points are the fewest to start a season since 1949. Was this the same offense that played this preseason?

next up... The Minnesota Vikings
