"The Engineer...always with direction"
"MISS SAIGON" at the Oriental Theatre
from June 10 - 22
review by Ed Vincent
"Highly Recommended" OPJ

In a word “spectacular”.  The staging alone for this show is
as grand as anything on stage and the sound and lighting are
fantastic.  The music doesn’t beckon me to go out and buy the
album, but the story is operatic and topical.  The plot is something of a ‘Juliette meets Platoon’ and if that doesn’t hit you right away it will once you have seen the show.   The settings are transformational, you are right in the heart of Saigon within moments of the show beginning.

There is a 3d  Ho Chi  Minh figure that is bigger than Andy Warhol's Chairman Mao in the Art Institute of Chicago.  The helicopter effect uses rear projection King Kong styled delivery and the Huey feels like it is right there.  The show ran for awhile when it was at the Auditorium theater, but this time it is only in town for a few short weeks.  This is a fun production and worthy of a trip to the Oriental Theatre to see it.
