Murder by the Book
By Duncan Greenwood and Robert King, Directed by David Mink
March 28 thru April 29, 2007
review by Ed Vincent

Murder by the Book, written in 1982 is set in the 1930's and takes place in England.  This production of mystery, mirth,
mayhem, and homicide is set perfectly in the heart of the
glamorous Farson Mills House in Oak Park.  The rich wood
decor, and lavish refinements put this at the tops of theatrical
venues.  Given the play's time period this setting easily allows
one to open the door to a small intimate party where one might
find F. Scott Fitzgerald musing with his friends.  This is better
than theater in the round, this is theater around you, this is
theater with events happening within arms reach, as though
you were a fly on the wall in a gathering of yesteryear.

Quaint quips of commentary evolving into vocal fencing with
a gal dressed for Guy Fox night.  The writing is fun and will
keep you entertained throughout, given the grand acting by
all present.  Witty ramblings in an orgy of mystery, hidden
cats in each corner brings surprises at each turn.  A labyrinth
of lies and growing depths of deception will keep you grasping
for more.

This fantastic production hosts some of our own local talent
and performers from the region.  Come and see this for yourself and come back with friends....it's worth every minute of your time.  Congratulations to Festival Theatre for a beautiful show.
