Communicating
Doors
July 7 to 29
by Alan Ayckbourn
review by Ed
Vincent
This production is another treat produced by the high
quality ensemble at Buffalo Theatre. There are
moments where I thought I was watching a mix of
"Slaughter House Five", by Kurt Vonnegut and a classic
film noir detective thriller. This time traveling murder
mystery begins with a sexy tart in black latex who believes
that she is here to spank a grey haired business man -
not like 60 minutes.
We find this dominatrix is not a
whore but rather a sexual consultant with an eye for
justice.
There are times when the journey feels like a "hotel in hell"
and times that require a little emotional math while through
it all a wild ride into the science fiction of time travel mixed
with love and justice. The sets are incredible and the
acting by all is superb. Connie Canaday Howard is great
in the role of Ruella, Julie Partyka as the ever changing
Jessica is grand, and Brad Lawrence as Julian is evil like
no other. Science fiction, sex, women in their underwear,
and humour, make a good story even better. Get your
tickets soon, this closes at the end of the month.

A London sex specialist
from the future stumbles into a
murder plot that sends her traveling back in time. She, and
two women who were murdered two decades earlier, race back and forth in
time, trying to rewrite history and prevent their own violent
ends. This is an intricate time-traveling comic thriller from the
British master of farce.
"A real knockout
... A vastly entertaining blend of drawing room thriller with old time
plays. Of course, Ayckbourn has added innumerable piquant and bizarre
details of his own ...
a show to see." — N.Y. Post
