The Blue Man group at the
Briar Street theater is an experience
of sight, light, sound, and rhythm.
It's an interactive performance
that has been packing houses for
years. I have spoken to
numerous persons looking forward
to another chance at seeing
the troop of Blue perform.
There was a time when the term
"blue" implied vulgar, now Blue
is a color and a theme. It's a
clean theme too, unless you're
in the front few rows. The show
is comedy of motion, skills of
action, and humor in Blue. The
entire audience is part of the
show, so get ready for fun. There
are ear plugs available (for free)
to persons bothered by loud
noise. This is a fun event
with lots of talent on stage and off
stage.
ABOUT BLUE MAN GROUP
The concept for Blue Man Group emerged
out of salon style
meetings hosted in 1987 by
Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton
and Chris Wink. Soon the three
long-time friends began
organizing a series of "happenings"
such as "Club Nowhere"
and "Funeral for the Eighties,"
which took place in and
around New York's Central
Park. Shortly thereafter,
they were appearing in performance
spaces in the East
Village, such as Dixon Place, Performance
Space 122 and
the Wooster Group's Performing
Garage.
TUBES first appeared at La MaMa
in January, 1991 and
then appeared later that year at
Lincoln Center as part
of the SERIOUS FUN! Festival.
By this time, the group
had grown to include musicians
Larry Heinemann and
Ian Pal, as well as video designer
Caryl Glaab. TUBES
then moved to the Astor Place
Theatre in November,
1991. The La MaMa production won
Blue Man Group an Obie
Award and the Astor Place
Production has won both the
Lucille Lortel and Drama
Desk Awards. Blue Man Group
expanded to include additional
performers: Chris Bowen,
Jeffrey Doombos, Shawn Stumick,
Michael Dahlen,
Brian Scott, Randall Jaynes, Steve
White, Peter Simpson,
John Grady, Tahmus Rounds,
Peter Starrett, Scott
Kinworthy, Michael Cates,
Wes Day, Tom Galassi,
General Fermon Judd, Andrew Burlinson,
Frank Licari,
Bryce Somerville, Michael
Rahhal, Jonathon Taylor,
Nathan Wetherington, Matthew
Banks, Anthony Parrulli,
Martin Marion. Blue Man Group
opened a second show
in Boston at the Charles Playhouse
in October 1995
where the show continues to enjoy
an overwhelmingly
enthusiastic reception.
In Chicago, Matt Goldman, Phil
Stanton, Chris Wink,
Matt Shallenberger, Jeremy
Gill, Bryce Somerville,
Martin Marion, Tom Galassi,
and Michael Rahhal and
Andrew Burlinson will rotate
into the show in various
combinations, three at a time.
