Post Performance Reception
Join as we open our season with a two-day celebration of the
madcap humor of Groucho Marx. Beginning on Friday night the
Fermilab
International Film Society will host the Groucho Film Fest with
a
double-feature of Horse Feathers and Duck Soup. Special discounts
are
available for "An Evening with Groucho" advance ticket holders.
Then the
fun continues on Saturday evening at 8 p.m. with Frank Ferrante's
acclaimed
show, An Evening with Groucho. Prior to the performance,
screenwriter/director Ron Falzone, a faculty member of Columbia
College,
Chicago, will give a talk on the history and style of the Marx Brothers
in
Room One West at 7 p.m. Following the performance we hope
you'll stay
around for a formal reception with free food and drink in the Fermilab
Atrium, where many of Fermilab's public activities will be represented.
Award-winning actor/director/playwright Frank Ferrante recreates
his PBS,
New York and London acclaimed portrayal of Groucho Marx in this
fast-paced
90 minutes of hilarity. The two-act comedy consists of the
best Groucho
one-liners, anecdotes and songs including "Hooray for Captain Spaulding,"
and "Lydia, the Tattooed Lady." The audience literally becomes
part of the
show as Ferrante ad-libs his way throughout the performance in grand
Groucho
style. Accompanied by his onstage pianist, Jim Furmston, Ferrante
portrays
the young Groucho of stage and film, and reacquaints us with the
likes of
brothers Harpo, Chico, Zeppo and Gummo, Charlie Chaplin, W.C. Fields,
Greta
Garbo, Marx's foil, Margaret Dumont and MGM's Louis B. Mayer.
Frank Ferrante has been described by The New York Times as "the greatest
living interpreter of Groucho Marx's material." He originated
the
off-Broadway title role in Groucho: A Life in Revue, written
by Groucho's
son, Arthur in 1986. He has since appeared on Broadway as
Groucho in the
revival of The Coconuts. He has directed numerous productions
of Groucho:
A Life in Review, which was taped by PBS for national distribution
in 2000.
He has been featured on The Today Show, Regis, CNN, Entertainment
Tonight,
and the BBC.
Tickets for An Evening with Groucho ($19/$10 for ages 18 and
under) and all 2002-2003 Fermilab events are available now.
