2001 Chicago International Children's Film Festival

Low Down Underground - USA - 7 minutes
Directed by: Elanna Nicole Allen
Chicago Premiere

Low Down Underground Review and Comments
"Rhyming animation and soulful sounds of
subway adventures.  A world with hope and
direction in times of trouble, nicely done.
There's humor, compassion, and a flash of
creative energy done with style."
Ed Vincent Oak Park Journal

Quentin is a rambunctious nine year old who bursts
into the car of the New York subway and almost
runs into an elderly lady! Quentin also meets two
other passengers, a blues musician and a punk, and
the four become a sort of family on the subway.
This unusual story of friendship is told in rap,
featuring artsits such as Treach, and Pepa
(formerly of Salt n' Pepa).

Mummy Look - France - 5 minutes
Directed by: Paul Boujenah
U.S. Premiere

Mummy Look Review and Comments
"A short film showing again that beauty
has but one face, though many expressions.
Exotic sounds highlight the market of
worldly delights"
Ed Vincent Oak Park Journal

A little boy entertains himself in the supermarket
while his flustered mother tries to get all the
shopping done. Suddenly the boy sees a woman who

I Want to Be... (Quiero Ser) - Germany/Mexico
 - 34 minutes
Directed by: Florian Gallenberger
Chicago Premiere

I Want to Be... (Quero Ser  ) Review and Comments
"Strong poignant film with all the emotive
forces of  life's struggle from the gutter to the
roof.  More balloons in this saga than the
fabled single red balloon of my youth.  This
film has a strong moral message and
existentialism is fine, but a stoic smile from
time to time is also nice with or without helium."
Ed Vincent Oak Park Journal

This Academy Award-winning short demonstrates
the difference between empty words and true
integrity. Two orphan brothers, aged 16 and 9,
barely scrape by in the streets of Mexico City.
Broken promises and shattered trust prompts the
younger one to take off for good. 25 years
later, they will meet again...

Bully Dance - Canada - 10 minutes
Directed by: Janet Perlman
Chicago Premiere

Bully Dance Review and Comments
"Wonderfully imagined graphics brought to
life filled with flowing sounds of symphonic
purpose.  Each episode of dramatic visual
movement is married to a sound and beat
of delight-plus a nice story."
Ed Vincent Oak Park Journal

Even bullies have bullied! When a bully
victimizes a small member of the group,
everyone in the community gets involved
to help out, even if it means putting
themselves in danger.

Delivery Day - Australia - 26 minutes
Directed by: Jane Manning
U.S. Premiere

Delivery Day Review and Comments
"Sweet smiling story filled with goodwill
between brother and sister. Youth will
find a way on well trodden paths set in the
clay of our histories. Many are forced to
blaze forward into the unknown when their
homes are removed by some fates of unkind
nature."  Ed Vincent Oak Park Journal

For eleven-year-old Trang it's just one of
those days. She needs her Vietnamese mother
to attend her school's parent-teacher
interview, but it is delivery day for the
garments in her mother's sweatshop, and Mum
is way too busy. What's a girl to do?
