Danielle Wade as Dorothy

                                        ★★★★

review by Ed Vincent

The overture begins under the watchful eye of Mr. David Andrews Rogers as his nephew, sitting beside me has come to hear his performance in tonight's opening show.  The dynamic clouds projected on the scenery begin their dynamic march across the stage, as the well know melody of the play entreats us to the coming drama.

All of the original songs are present in the production and a few new ones added, as well as some fun little character developments and some some additions to the plot and dialogue--all a plus.  This play of adventure, imagination, with drama and new humor, in the well told legend of the visitors to the land of Oz, is fabulous with a well-rounded and talented cast.

The star of the show Dorothy played by Danielle Wade is a beautiful and talented young woman with a strong charming voice.  When she concludes at her signature song, "Somewhere over the Rainbow", she receives an applause one would normally find at the Lyric Opera, at the conclusion of a well-known aria.  The history and now legend of this most loved play lives live on stage with great work performed by everyone.  The new choreography used to give full sized people the feel of a more diminutive person, using both
umbrellas and stylized steps reminiscent
of the films dance.  There are many clever and fun creations in the show.

The costumes are vibrant and fitting to the drama.  There was another man sitting with us whose father had danced with the original witch Margaret Hamilton,  at a USO event during World War II.  Many in the audience had never seen any performance of the Wizard of Oz on stage, and they were given a wonderful treat.
