COLBY BURNETT CLAIMS SECOND ‘JEOPARDY!’ TOURNAMENT TITLE WITH TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS VICTORY CULVER CITY, CALIF. (Feb. 26,
2013) – In an episode that aired today, Colby Burnett, a World History
teacher from Chicago, Ill., won the JEOPARDY! Tournament of Champions
and captured the $250,000 grand prize. The 29-year-old Burnett also won
the JEOPARDY! Teachers Tournament in November 2012.
“I told my students before I left not to be disappointed because this might be a ‘one and done’ event,” said Burnett, who teaches at his alma mater, Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Ill. “I was just happy to be out there. I had no idea I would do so well. It was amazing, for both cash and prestige purposes.” Keith Whitener, a research chemist from Charlotte, N.C., came in second and won $100,000, while Kristin Morgan, a strategic analyst at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., finished third and took home $50,000. “I was happy with the opportunity to come back and compete against some amazing players,” Burnett said. “The most challenging part was overcoming apprehension about people who had won more games than I had. Momentum was never an issue, I ran off pure adrenaline in every match.” The $250,000 Tournament of Champions payday coupled with the $100,000 prize from his Teachers Tournament victory places Burnett in an elite group of high-earning JEOPARDY! champions. “I’m staying committed to being the same person I was before I set foot on that stage,” said Burnett, who plans on purchasing a house for his mother with his winnings. “I certainly can’t retire, so I’m going to work with the same zeal I had all these years. I’m still riding public transportation and living in my apartment. I don’t like change all that much.” JEOPARDY! airs locally in Chicago at 2:30 p.m. on WLS-TV (ABC Chicago). February 25, 2013 Colby
Burnett has Won $22.200.00 more It was a tough battle of words today and there were ups and downs for each of the contestants. The game was challenging and players each took big chances, though Colby who got a question right only took a slight chance since he was in the lead. Tomorrow will determine how much Colby Burnett will come home with in addition to his first win of $100,000.00. We are holding our breaths until the part two, tomorrow. Best wishes to Colby.

Burnett has Won two more
Events Getting Closer to the Grand Prize of $250.000.00 In the past few days Mr.
Burnett won a round that put him into the Semi Finals of the
Championship round and yesterday he has now made it into the Final
round and on a path to win a Quarter of a Million dollars on top of his
previous winnings that had been promised to buy his mom a condo in Oak
Park.
The last few games were filled with more difficult questions and more difficult competition from his two, now four players. His last victory, putting him into the Final competition round was won by correctly answering the "Russian five-year plan" concerning the first motion by the Soviets to increase their production. Mr. Burnett had bet some $16,000 on his response and with the right answer he won a grand total of $38,401.00 and is now graduated to the finalist round. It was an incredibly tough tournament and a great victory for Mr. Burnett. I was very pleased with the fine gallant behavior amongst the contestants each cheering the other one on when going got tough. I was greatly impressed with their politeness and camaraderie, all great teachers and wonderful people. On February 12, on Tuesday the airing of Jeopardy at 2:30 in the afternoon, Mr. Burnett became a semi-finalist on Jeopardy after having won the game agianst stiff competition, with a $16,400.00 check for his efforts. The competition gets tougher and tougher as Oak Park's Colby Burnetts keeps advancing to bigger and bigger winnings. They keep referring to Mr. Burnett as coming from Chicago instead of his true location of Oak Park. I would have thought that the Governor would have helped out his brother by making it clear that Mr. Burnett was from Oak Park and from the school where his brother teaches. Governor Quinn did declare a Colby Burnett day for his last winnings in the Jeopardy game, but not only does the Governor have a brother at Fenwick he also has a niece and a nephew in Mr. Burnett's class. We will find out next week if Mr. Burnett wins, my feelings are that he has already-but not official until next week.
