NARRATIVE: HAYES, ALTON 18YOA OF THE 1200 BLOCK OF WOODBINE IN OAK PARK AND A MALE JUVENILE 15YOA FROM CHICAGO WERE ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPT ROBBERY, AGGRAVATED BATTERY AND A HATE CRIME WHICH OCCURRED IN THE 600 BLOCK OF N KENILWORTH. HAYES IS HELD IN LIEU OF BOND HEARING AND THE JUVENILE WAS REFERRED TO COURT. Alton L. Hayes III, of 1233 North Woodbine Ave. in Oak Park, Illinois has been charged with a hate crime, a felony along with aggravated battery and attempted robbery in Oak Park. Alton L. Hayes III, 18 years old and a 15 year old Chicago youth, both being black attacked a white 19 year old male on the 600 block of North Kenilworth Avenue at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 17th. Police have told reporters that Alton L. Hayes III came at the white 19 year old with a large tree limb and said, “Empty your pockets, white boy.” Hayes is also reported to have told police he was very upset concerning the Trayvon Martin case in Florida, and chose to beat up a man because he was white. Both offenders have pummeled the victim according to police records, “numerous times,” and then throwing him to the ground after checking his pockets. This was a little bit before 1:00am and there was not a lot of street activity in the part of the Village when they ceased their beating of the man and ran off. Oak Park police came to the scene and searched for the offenders who were trying to hide and elude them. They were finally apprehended a few blocks east of the attack. Cook County state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton talking from court records noted the racial element in the attack. The Oak Parker charged in the felonies of aggravated battery, attempted robbery, and hate crime lived at 1233 North Woodbine Avenue, right across the alley from Democratic State Senator Don Harmon's office. Alton L. Hayes III ordered by the Judge on a $80,000 bond and remained in Cook Jail. The 15 year old offender was given over to the Juvenile court system from further determination of charges. Alton L. Hayes III has been in the Oak Park school system since the beginning of elementary school, a school in his neighborhood, an upper class area of Oak Park. Friends of his have told us that they are upset for the parents of Hayes, but were also not surprised at the mans actions, relating to the violent nature. They were taken back by the racial element in the attacks. ![]() ![]() ![]() © Suburban Journals of Chicago Inc. published by Suburban Journals of Chicago Inc. |
