Police ticket unbuckled and impaired drivers

During a recent crack down on unbuckled motorists and impaired drivers, Oak Park Police issued more than three dozen citations and arrested three drunk drivers.

The special enforcement effort from Nov. 14 – 27 was part of the merged Click It or Ticket and Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over programs created by Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Traffic Safety (IDOT/DTS).
In addition to the three arrests for driving under the influence, Oak Park Police also issued citations for the following violations:

17 speeding
15 uninsured motorists
Seven suspended/revoked licenses
Five safety belt violations
Two child safety seat citations

Oak Park Police say they will continue to be on the lookout for vehicles with drivers and passengers who are not wearing seatbelts.

A new law set to go into effect Jan. 1 requires all passengers – including those in the rear seats – to wear seat belts. Police also will remain vigilant in their efforts to stop drivers suspected of driving under the influence.
