![]() THE HEART OF A MARINE FOUNDATION TO HOST DISABLED VETERANS / ADAPTIVE ATHLETES COMPETITION IN THE TOUR OF ELK GROVE MEET THE ATHLETES PREVIEW JUNE 28 Elk Grove Village, Illinois – June 16, 2011 The Heart Of A Marine Foundation, headquartered in Elk Grove Village is proud to host the first disabled veterans / adaptive athletes competition within the 2011 Alexian Brother’s International Tour of Elk Grove. The 6th annual Tour of Elk Grove will be held Friday, August 5-Sunday August 7. The Heart Of A Marine Foundation Adaptive Athletes race is slated for Sunday, August 7 at 10:30am On Tuesday, June 28 at 10:30am The Heart Of A Marine Foundation will introduce participating veteran athletes and their adaptive hand cycles. Beginning at the Hattendorf Center in Elk Grove (225 E. Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove), a secured section of the official race course will be available to the veterans to demonstrate their abilities and equipment. Question and answer session with the veterans will follow. Competitors are veterans representing the Army and Marine Corps. Their disabilities range from spinal cord injuries to traumatic brain injury (TBI). Many of the competing veterans are distinguished with the Silver Star, Bronze Star and/or Purple Heart. The Heart Of A Marine Foundation’s Aphasia Project focuses on rehabilitation of TBI.
