Little Al,  Drunk Again and Police Release Him Racing without a Bond, and this is not his first time being stupid...

Police Arrest Photo from a Previous DUI Arrest.

Police Arrest Photo from Albuquerque, NM

On September 29, 2011 Alfred Unser, Jr. (born April 19, 1962), aka "Little Al" was arrested in Albuquerque, New Mexico and charged with driving over 100 miles per hour in an area where that brought him over the speed limit by some 41 miles an hour and also at the time when he was twice the legal limit for alcohol in his blood.  This is far from the first time that "Little Al" has had issues with the alcohol demon.  He has had the police called  on him by his girl friend, according to police records for a reported slapping of her.

He has won the Indy500 twice, before his retirement from the track and now he has two recorded arrests on his record for drunk driving, and now racing while drunk.  Not only racing while drunk, but at high speeds and not some little pissy car that will crumble if it hits something--a full sized Chevrolet Suburban is quiet a dangerous weapon in the hands of a drunken idiot.

I guess you would have to be drunk and stupid to think that a SUV was a primo racing machine.

IndyCar released a statement  following
"Little Al's" arrest:

“Al Unser Jr. has been suspended indefinitely and relieved of his duties in Race Control, pending further investigation.”

The report from
Albuquerque, New Mexico states that "Little Al" was weaving across lanes of traffic on the local Coors off ramp, while other drivers were forced to slam on their brakes to avoid accidents.

"Little Al's" breathalizer test which returned a .16.  "Little Al"
has been charged with reckless driving, aggravated DWI and racing upon a highway. "Little Al" was released from jail on his word without any bond required.

In 2002, Alfred Unser, Jr. underwent treatment for alcohol abuse but that didn't apparently work too well.

Better times for
Alfred Unser, Jr.
