Friday, as a special board meeting with the task of selecting a new superintendent for
District 97. All of the Board was present for the vote with the
exception of Mr. Jim Gates, who is recovering from a surgery.
All of the board members voted in favor of hiring Dr. Albert G. Roberts on a three year contract. Before the vote each member had glowing praise for their views of Dr. Robert's abilities and past performance analysis after a visit that was taken to his prior school district in Clarkston, Michigan. Clarkston is a small town in Michigan having only 962 people in the 2000 census, in 406 households. The demographics are as follows: 96.78% White, 0.31% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 2.18% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.04%. The per capita income for Clarkston, Michigan was $36,838. There were only some 2.2% of families below the poverty line. They are the home to musician Kid Rock, and we have Ludacris, aka Christopher Brian Bridges, so we do have that in common. Dr. Albert G. Roberts is a charming and personable person, the husband of an elementary school teacher, and an apparent hit with school district in Michigan. We wish him the very best in these troubled times. We still have talk of a planned coming referendum and that might prove to be a large hill to climb for anyone. ![]() ![]() Dr. Albert G. Roberts as its new superintendent during a special meeting held this afternoon. Roberts’ first day as superintendent will be July 1. “I am thrilled to be joining Oak Park Elementary School District 97,” said Roberts. “This is a district with a very distinguished past; and together with the board, administrators, faculty, staff, parents and community I believe we can build an even brighter future. My wife Arlene and I are looking forward to moving to Oak Park.” Roberts served as the superintendent of Clarkston Community Schools in Clarkston, Michigan for 14 years.
