Animal Care League Honors Judy Baar Topinka With "Given Shelter Fundraiser to Promote Animal Care and Protection Chicago—Animal Care League (www.animalcareleague.org) will honor former Illinois State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka with its first annual Animal Advocate Award in recognition of her ongoing efforts to promote animal welfare. The award is part of ACL’s annual Give ‘em Shelter benefit to be held at Primitive in Chicago on Friday evening, October 2, 2009. Honorary Chairs include Illinois 7th ward Congressman Danny K. Davis , Cook Country Treasurer Maria Pappas, cosmetics queen Marilyn Miglin and Cook County Relations Deputy Hazel Barr. CBS2 Television anchor Rob Johnson will emcee. “Working on behalf of animal rights has been one of my life’s passions. I am honored to receive this recognition and hopefully will be able to use it to continue fighting for the welfare of innocent animals,” says Topinka. ACL Executive Director Tom Van Winkle adds, “We are equally honored to recognize Judy Baar Topinka. She has used her position to champion anti-dog fighting legislation, provided low-interest loans to animal shelters, and continues to promote animal care and protection.” For over 35 years Animal Care League has provided homeless animals food, shelter, medical attention and love until they can find a new home. This not for profit 401 (c)3 organization accepts animals free of charge and maintains the practice of keeping adoptable animals until suitable homes can be found. Today, ACL is known for helping to reduce the number of homeless animals in a vast number of communities. Give ‘em Shelter will feature live entertainment, shelter animals, and a host of ways for patrons to make donations in support of a wide variety of programs developed and maintained by ACL. The event will take place at PRIMITIVE, Chicago’s premier destination for museum grade objects and furnishings. Primitive owner Glen Joffe says, “We are thrilled Give ‘em Shelter will be held at our flagship store for the second year in a row. Virtually everything raised at the event benefits the animals directly. This is truly a great opportunity to help an extraordinary organization and the animals they help in desperate need of support.” Admission to Give ‘Em Shelter is $75 per person and tax deductible. RSVPs may be made by calling 708.848.8155 or online at (www.animalcareleague.org, or by visiting www.givemshelter.com. ![]() ![]() © Suburban Journals of Chicago Inc. published by Suburban Journals of Chicago Inc. |
