Farmers’ Market seeking volunteers

Friends of the Oak Park Farmers' Market will host a volunteer recruitment reception from 7 – 8 p.m., Tues., May 6, at the Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake St.

Volunteers are needed to work two-hour shifts on Saturdays when the market opens in May.

The first Market of the 2008 season will be Sat., May 24, two weeks earlier than in the past. The early opening date, which is a test run for this season, came in response to patrons who say the traditional start date of the first Saturday in June is too late to begin gardening and planting.

During the first two early markets in May, hours will be 8 a.m. – noon. With the first full market on Sat., June 1, regular hours of 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. will go into effect until the market ends on the last Saturday in October.

The Farmers’ Market is held in the Pilgrim Church parking lot, just west of the intersection of Ridgeland Avenue and Lake Street. For more information call 708.358.5489, e-mail farmersmarket@oak-park.us or visit www.oak-park.us/farmersmarket.
