May 3Model Railroad Open House During Ethnic Fest at Whittier!

  <>
When you visit Ethnic Fest, cross Augusta Boulevard to the Dole Learning Center to see your local HO model railroad club action. Visit the Oak Park Society of Model Engineers on Saturday, May 3, 2007 from 12:01 p.m. to
5 p.m. in our clubroom on the Lower Level of the Dole Learning Center,
255 Augusta.

We've completed the first level of our new multi-level model railroad and have started building our second level. Trains will be operating during the Open House, including Thomas. Stop by for a look at what’s been built and check out our plans for the Illinois and Iowa levels. Operate engines in one of our classification yards or on our portable layout seen at Day in Our Village.

Our new layout represents a fictional railroad running from Chicago west to Iowa. When completed it will have three levels of operation. The lowest level is a staging area with several yards, the middle level represents Illinois, including an Oak Park scene, and the top level represents our railroading Iowa. We use Digital Command Control (DCC) and have utilized a number
of adventuresome modeling techniques – computer control, helices,
lightweight materials, lighting effects, and more.

<>You're encouraged to talk with club members about the hobby model railroading and how our club can be the gateway to a fulfilling pastime. You can even get expert advice to assist you with questions about building your own layout and/or buying the right model train.
