LAURA MYNTTI KICKS OFF TOUR

AT EXPRESSIONS GRAPHICS

CHICAGO (January 28, 2008)Laura Myntti, a internationally exhibited and collected post-modern artist currently residing in Chicago, will kick off her upcoming exhibition tour at Expressions Graphics, 29 Harrison St., on Friday, February 1. Ms. Myntti will exhibit paintings, etchings, drawings, mixed media, interior watercolors and other works from the past twenty-five years.  Ms. Myntti will host a reception during the Oak Park Arts District’s Third Friday on February 15 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Expressions Graphics, as well as a portfolio review of her work on Saturday, February 16 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Ms. Myntti’s work will remain on exhibit through Friday, February 29.

Ms. Myntti’s work is inspired by the daily experiences of life, including interpersonal relationships, family and marriage.  She often uses vivid, expressive colors in her paintings.  Much of Ms. Myntti’s work, including her recent Michaelangelo themed body of work, is representational, based on experiences of life. The rest of her work is non-representational. Ms. Myntti will be showing some of her non-representational work inspired by the Cosmos; she says “the numbers involved are so huge, vast, I find myself thinking about it constantly. The macro vs. the micro.”

Although Ms. Myntti was born in Minnesota, she was educated at the University of Idaho and the University of Paris. Her work is in the permanent collections in such museums as the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, the New York Public Library, Chicago’s Mexican Fine Arts Museum, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She spent eight years in Anchorage, where she married an Alaskan and then traveled and made art in Boston, London, and New York, before returning to Alaska to raise children.  Ms. Myntti currently spends most of her time between Chicago and Ely, Minn., where she has a cabin and a summer studio.

Following the reception at Expressions Graphics Ms. Myntti will be showcasing her artwork in July 2008 at the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and in September 2008 at Hobart Galleries in Ferndale, California.  Ms. Myntti’s tour will end in 2009 at the Association Pour L’ Estampe at L’Art Populaire in Paris, France.
