We were at another Jazz event on the evening we escaped the crowds downtown and headed for the Weather Mark Tavern
located in the up and coming south loop area of the city.  This
is a wonderful treat for all of the senses.  We heard the multi
talented Peter Lerner on his guitar make the strings sing, cry,
and laugh all with the artistry of well seasoned virtuoso in the
land of Jazz.  We are informed that this caliber of talent is
often found here on Thursday evenings and I believe it--I heard
it from the owner.  Mark Stern is the owner and the kind of
young entrepreneur who loves what he is doing, does it well,
and wants you to feel at home.

We showed up unannounced and placed our order for food.
The quality of steak and seafood rivaled the best I have
sampled anywhere.  I noted the owner knowing many of his
repeat customers and also personally greeting each new person
who came in and inquired on how their evening was and whatever else might make it even better.  The owner is a gentleman and tremendous host, with one heck of a cook.


The Filet Mignon and Grilled Salmon tasted even better than they looked, and they looked like Art, the kind you want make kinetic and eat.

The food brought to the tables was tasty and glamorous.  The potatoes were packed into large spring rolls and sliced,  the
asparagus and sauce were heavenly and the steak must have
been captured from Valhalla.  As I write this I want to return
for another meal and listen to some great Jazz, every Thursday
night.

The Weather Mark Tavern is a down to earth slice of heaven
for the neighborhood and all of metro Chicago, highly recommended for a great time with family and friends.

BACKGROUND

In 1916 Johnny Stein's band from New Orleans was playing a style of music that was new in Chicago. A retired vaudeville entertainer, somewhat titillated by straight blended whiskey and inspired by the throbbing tempos of this lively band, stood at his table and shouted, "Jazz it up, boys!"

 
And that’s exactly what Weather Mark Tavern is doing in the Chicago’s Jazz Scene. This nautical themed tavern is making a name for itself in the South Loop featuring some of the best Jazz in Chicago-land. Weather Mark Tavern is “Jazzing it up” every Thursday night starting at 8pm
with NO COVER CHARGE, ALL AGES UNTIL 10:30pm and a FULL DINNER MENU AVAILABLE UNTIL MIDNIGHT.

 
Thursday night SPECIALS INCLUDE ½ Price Appetizers and NEW menu Items by head Chef Jake featuring American Bistro cuisine with a south western ascent not commonly found at a tavern restaurant. The restaurant is veggie friendly and has a great kids menu too. Stay late and take advantage of Select Rum Specials, with the tavern featuring over 40 different in-house rums. Dinner is served until midnight every night,
ALL AGES stay until 10:30pm. This event repeats every Thursday with
a new band featured each week throughout the year. 

Often surprise guest ‘Jazz Cats’ sit in and swing with improvisational music.

The tavern is open for lunch at 11:30 on week days and offers Brunch on Saturday and Sunday at 10:30am with great Bloody Mary & Screw Driver specials. Kids always eat Brunch Free on the first Saturday of the month.
