Fourth Annual Concerto Competition

The 4th Annual Concerto Competition is open to all instrumental musicians who have not completed their high school senior year as of the time of the competition (November 2007), and whose primary residence is within 10 miles of Oak Park. Contestants must submit a recording of their playing on cassette tape or CD (5-10 minutes). An excerpt from the concerto to be performed in the competition may be submitted (with or without accompaniment), or a solo piece or pieces may be recorded. Professional recording quality is not required. Finalists will play one movement of any solo instrumental concerto of their choice (standard repertory only, please) on Saturday, November 10, 2007, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, Kretzman Hall, Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois. Performance does not need to be from memory. Accompanist to play the piano orchestral reduction mandatory for all contestants. Contestants wishing an accompanist please contact us for assistance. The winner will receive $500 and be invited to perform with the Symphony of Oak Park & River Forest at the Family Concert on January 20, 2008. 2007-2008 String Internships The Symphony of Oak Park & River Forest has several string internships available for qualified young musicians. Students in junior high through college may apply. Interns will have the opportunity to play alongside well-accomplished amateur and professional musicians and learn exciting pieces from the standard repertoire as well as innovative new works. In addition, interns will be featured in the symphony program/ad book which will be distributed at each concert.

A $600 stipend will be given to each intern at the end of the symphony season. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., September through April in the bandroom at Concordia University.
