Oak Park resident Jonathan Weir stars in STATE FAIR! Lincolnshire, IL— Oak Park resident Jonathan Weir stars in State Fair!, the hit Broadway musical. State Fair! opens May 3 and runs through June 25 at Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, 10 Marriott Drive. Jonathan Weir stars as “Dave Miller” in State Fair!. Weir returns to the Marriott Theatre having last appeared as Harry Macafee in Bye Bye Birdie. His other Marriott credits include The First, Grand Hotel, Me and My Girl and Funny Girl. Weir’s National Tours include Lion King performing the roles of Scar and Pumbaa and Jacob Marley opposite Richard Chamberlain in Scrooge the Musical. Weir’s other Chicago credits include Arms and the Man, Misalliance, The Father and Booth at Writers Theatre, A Christmas Carol and The Visit at Goodman Theatre, Stepping Out at Steppenwolf Theatre, Gypsy, Most Happy Fella and Evita at Drury Lane Oakbrook as well as performances at Northlight, Apple Tree, Court Theatre, Skylight Theatre and Next Act Theatre in Milwaukee and three summers at Peninsula Players in Door County Wisconsin. A funny, nostalgic and endearing love story, the show takes place in the late summer of 1946. When the Frake family travels to the Iowa State Fair, Ma and Pa enter blue ribbon contests while daughter Margy and son Wayne are swept off their feet by would-be suitors. Over the course of the fair, contests are won, hearts are broken, lovers rendezvous, and bets are made. Adapted from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s made-for-movies musical, State Fair! hit Broadway in 1996. With much success during its national tour, State Fair! features Oscar-nominated music such as “It Might As Well Be Spring”, “Isn’t It Kind Of Fun?” and “It’s A Grand Night For Singing”. State Fair! stars Roger Mueller as Abel Frake, Johanna Miller as Margy Frake, Mary Ernster as Melissa Frake and Matt Raftery as Wayne Frake. The artistic team for State Fair! is led by award-winning director Joe Leonardo, with choreography by Marc Robin and musical direction by Doug Peck. Set Design is by Thomas M. Ryan, Costume Design is by Nancy Missimi, Lighting Design is by Diane Ferry Williams, Sound Design is by Cecil Averett, and Properties Design is by Gregory Isaac. Patti Garwood conducts the Marriott Theatre Orchestra. The performance schedule for State Fair is Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. With the purchase of a $45 ticket on Wednesdays and Thursdays, you receive a free dinner. (Based on dining availability.) A $3.00 discount is taken off the ticket price, otherwise. All other performance ticket prices are $42.00, excluding tax and handling fees. A $5.00 discount for students and seniors is valid on Wednesday and Sunday matinee performances.
