A Dog Day Afternoon in Downtown Oak Park
by Ed Vincent

The Animal Care League held a fun event to benefit all the wonderful pets that they take care of and find homes for in the
immediate area.  Many people registered for the event on line
before the festive day, while others attended on the mall without
registering.  Those that did register were given T-shirts and
gifts from some of the companies present.  The weather was
good and many villagers were on the mall with their pets.

The sisters from "Clippin' Critters" were on the mall promoting
their Professional Dog and Cat grooming business by giving free
nail cutting to even the biggest dogs. (Clippin' Critters, 708-795-7972  6407 West 34th Street, Berwyn, IL).  There
were many, many organizations representing many breeds of
dogs and cats.  There were also many different companies that
either helped or promoted certain species, or tried to give them
all good food.

People and their pets always make a good day and with so
much good will outdoors, even the weather behaved like a
well heeled mutt waiting to storm.  More animals we be adapted
and more people will know about the towns efforts to help out
our animal friends.

A Dog Day Afternoon in Downtown Oak Park is promising to be a huge draw for canine aficionados throughout the region. An event-filled day is planned, featuring the world-class canine Frisbee dogs of the Windy City K-9 Disc Club, agility demonstrations, Illinois State Police K-9 demonstrations, top local music talent, and other dog-friendly entertainment for pooches and their owners.

Fido's Fun Fair will be an activity area planned just for dogs. Tennis ball bobbing, paw-print keepsakes and fun and funny contests (with prizes) will be held all day. Dogs can also have their nails clipped and get micro-chipped.

In addition to canine-centered entertainment, the event will also feature not-for-profit rescue groups, as well as information booths staffed by dog-care related businesses.

Registration is $25, and each registrant receives a Goodie Bag and T-shirt. All monies raised from this event will provide much needed help for the homeless animals cared for by the Animal Care League, a 501(c)(3) Not-for-Profit Corporation.
