Soprano Christine Steyer wins Founder’s Award  at
IXAltamura/Caruso International Voice Competition


On Saturday, August 26, 2006  in Catskill, NY, 15 singers from
around the world competed for $27,000 in prizes in the IX Altamura/Caruso International Voice Competition.  These finalists were selected from 120 contestants from many countries. The semi-finals and finals had a world famous jury including Mignon
Dunn, Licia Albanese, Martina Arroyo and Carmela Altamura and
was conducted by the eminent Maestro Anton Coppola.


Soprano Christine Steyer of Chicago, IL sang the bel canto aria Regnava nel silenzio from Gaetano Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammermoor.  She was awarded the Founder’s Award by Carmela
and Leonard Altamura for her riveting performance.


The finals were broadcast worldwide on the internet via LiveStream 
as well as on local and tri-state area cable, Mondo Italiano, WQXR radio- the classical music station of the New York Times and RAI – international Italian radio and TV.
