Update
Young Hispanic Man Shoots Himself in the Head
Fleeing Pursuing Police After Allegedly Raping Women
in River Forest
by Ed Vincent

River Forest residents living near the scene of Fabian
Patillo have noted their unrest from the assault so near
to their homes, some in their own yards at the time of
this attack.  Fabian Patillo's body has been checked to
match that of the attacker by finger prints and other
evidence of the robbery that was found with  him at
the time of his shooting himself in the head by accident.

Patillo had not been out of jail for more than a couple of
months before he took to crime.  Many feel for the
young police officer from Oak Park who was about to
tackle or subdue Patillo when the  young  Chicago  kid
tried to kill the officer  but instead  fired the shot into his
own brain.

The percentage of people who shoot themselves in the
head by accident  while trying to kill another is  very small
and may make this occurrence a good case for a  Darwin
Award (
awards given to the very stupid each year).

Young Hispanic Man Shoots Himself in the Head
Fleeing Pursuing Police After Allegedly Raping Women
in River Forest
by Ed Vincent

A twenty-one year old Chicago resident with an alleged
history of criminal violence is said to have attacked
some River Forest residents in their yard and sexually
assaulted two women before fleeing on foot into
Oak  Park where it is being said he tried to fire at
Police chasing him and instead fired a 9 mm round
over his shoulder and by accident released a single
round into his own head, where he died at about
4:00 am this morning in the hospital.

The story is bizaare and the investigation is  ongoing.

River Forest Police Department Offical Release

On June 5, 2006, at approximately 9:52 PM, River Forest police officers responded to a call of a man with a gun at a residence in the 7200 block of Iowa.  Upon the arrival of officers, it was found that five women in a back yard of a residence had been confronted by a subject with a firearm who announced a robbery.  After robbing one of the women, he ordered all of them to remove some of their clothing and sexually assaulted two of the women.  During the second sexual assault, the victim began fighting with the offender at which time he fled the scene.  A description was broadcast to the surrounding police departments and within moments, an officer observed a subject matching the description of the wanted person entering the elevated train station in the 1100 block of North Boulevard in Oak Park.  A foot chase ensued over several blocks and an officer from the
Oak Park Police Department chased the subject on foot to the 400 block
of Home Avenue.  Before officers could apprehend him, the subject accidentally shot himself once in the head.  The firearm was recovered at the scene, and the offender was transported to Loyola Hospital in grave condition where he later died from his injuries.  The subject has been identified as Fabian Patillo, 21 years of age, from Chicago.  This case is currently under investigation.

Home Avenue Shooting Incident Police Statement

June 6, 2006

Oak Park Police responded at approximately 10 p.m. Monday to a call for radio dispatch assistance from River Forest Police who were in pursuit of a man with a handgun in the 7200 block of Iowa.

The individual was believed to have been involved in a robbery and criminal sexual assault in that neighborhood.

The suspect was later observed on foot near Harlem Avenue and South Boulevard by a Forest Park police officer, who reported he was fleeing into Oak Park. The officer reported observing a handgun in the suspect's possession.

An off-duty Oak Park police detective who had monitored the incident via his police radio advised dispatch that he had observed the subject hiding between parked cars in the 1000 block of Washington Boulevard.

The detective identified himself and ordered the suspect to surrender. The suspect fled on foot with the detective, who was soon joined by another Oak Park police officer, in pursuit southbound on Home Avenue.

As the detective and officer came within a few feet of the suspect, he raised his handgun in an apparent attempt to shoot at his pursuers while continuing to run and accidentally shot himself on the right side of the head. This was at approximately 10:15 p.m.

The suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Fabian Patillo of Chicago, was transported to Loyola hospital. He later died of his injuries.

A 9 millimeter handgun and the single spent cartridge case were recovered at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.

Police sources Declare Suicide as
Cause of Death.
by Ed Vincent

Police are now saying that they believe the reason only one
shot may have been heard is that the man fleeing  police had
shot himself in the head after running for perhaps a mile or
more from the patrols.  There were rumors to that effect
last night on the scene, but they were not taken seriously
by the those at the shooting.  The coroner should have
no trouble in noting powder residue from a close shot and
other forensics on the gun itself should make this an open
and shut case relating  to the cause of death.

There were a few residents who thought that they heard
more than one shot and that could have put the evidence
teams onto high alert if that was the case.

We are still waiting to hear of official reports from  Oak  Park
and River Forest, where crimes may have been committed by
the same person.

June 6, 2006- The Day of the Devil
for Oak Park 666 Came in
With a
Shooting on  the  Street.

by Ed Vincent

Shots are reported being fired on the  street on the 400

Block of south Home Avenue at about 10:16 pm in
Oak Park.  Neighbors across the street heard a single
shot after hearing a voice call out to get down.  A shot
was fired and a man lay motionless on  the sidewalk.
His shirt was stripped from him before being taken
away by  ambulance.  Reports described the  man as
a black male, young in  age and with  an average build.

A Polish journalist was coming home on the Green line at
about 10:05 pm, at Harlem Avenue, on the train platform.
She noticed a young black man with a dark colored automatic
handgun running away from several police officers.  She got
out of the way and waited for the chase to leave the train
platform.  She then called her fiancee and asked if he could
come and pick her up at the train.  When he heard what had
happened he quickly got in his car and came to get her.  He
arrived and they drove off in his car to  take her home.  She
lives in the area of Home and Washington Blvd.  When he
arrived at her house they noticed many police cars in the
area and also the same man with a gun in his hand running
from the police.  This appeared to be the same man that
she had seen on the  train platform.  Within moments
they heard gun fire, noticed more police cars and then
waited a moment or two before investigating the scence.

400 Block of South Home Ave- 11:20pm, Neighbors from across the
street from the shooting had heard the gun fire in their living room.
Their window was opened and they hit the ground with the sound of
a gun shot.  The noticed all the police and came to the porch.

The Polish Journalist and many of the neighbors came out
to see a motionless body on the ground.  Police were all
around and emergency personnel were trying to take the
man away by ambulance.  One of the women interviewed
by news crews about the shooting had gone to school with
a young black man who was convicted of killing a fellow
classmate in the alley right near this shooting tonight.

The time is now 11:58 pm, police begin to look into the grass
nearby for signs of spent shells and other evidence.

Police sources had confirmed that no Police officer had
been shot, but other information was being held tight to
the vest.  Later a gun matching the description given by
the Polish  Journalist was taken from the lawn where the
motionless body of a young black man was believed to
removed by ambulance.

The gun was filmed in high definition by a Chicago news
crew.

casing from the lawn.

12:31 am, police begin going door to  door.  Police had
gone to all the neighbors earlier to ask what they had
seen and heard.

12:47 am, police continue checking the area for evidence.

12:48 am, the street is still blocked and no official word is released
on the situation after the shooting.

Other reporters have heard reports from their papers that
Oak Park has said as of 11:45 pm that nothing has happened
in Oak Park.  The man running from the Police appears to
be the same one who  was taken away by the ambulance but
no word has come yet as to how he is doing, who shot him,
and why.

More to come....
